Newsletter Team

Adeeb Qasem, Yemen
This young chap's inspiration and initiative helped in founding SY. Often nicknamed the Godfather of SY, Adeeb is a network professional/system administrator during the day and although he spends lots of time computing and IT-ing, Adeeb enjoys following up on good books and quality writers, such as Robert Fisk, Tareq Ramadan, Thomas Friedman and many others. Deep is an essential part of SY's team, especially in marketing SY in Yemen.

Ali Al-Hadheri, Yemen
Ali is an IT specialist who is Microsoft Oracle and SunMicrosystems Certified; is very much interested in Marketing management, e-business and e-marketing and is preparing his Masters degree in MBA-IT. But Ali’s life doesn’t revolve around IT only. He loves to serve his community by supporting Youth NGOs (such as writing for SY-English as an alternative writer) and strongly believes that “We should be the change that we want to see in the world.” And yes, Ali loves Sana'a very much! You can find more about him on his website: http://www.cube-technology.com

Ahmed Al-Shami, Canada
Ahmed is an essential part of the SY-English technical team. Since he joined in 2005, his humorous spirit has added more fun to the team meetings. Don’t give Ahmed hot coffee, he hates it. Ahmed is one of those keeping up with every new technology. Very typical of a guy, eh?

Ahmed Zaid, Canada
Ahmed played a critical role in the establishment of SY where he assisted with marketing and contributed as a writer. He took a long break from SY, but is back with the same passion and drive! Ahmed is a monthly writer and the marketing director for SY-Arabic.

Amad Almsaodi, US
It all started when Amad was trying to sell paper ships to his 8 years old classmates at Azal Alwadi Elementary School. This entrepreneur spirit grew to become a drive of ambition that led him to open several small offices and e-commerce start-ups. Currently, Amad is working on his biggest business project which he plans to release after completing his Masters in Management of Technology and Innovation. Amad lives in the US and is a monthly writer and a technical assistant with SY-Arabic.

Eman Hatim, UK
When she’s not putting pen to paper, she’s contentedly placing drill to tooth and takes great pride in addressing her patient’s toothy ‘pickles’. She disfavours being kept in waiting, disorganization and snobbery yet give her a chocy and the sun and all her strings are thawed. As a writer for SY-English, she hopes her capacity to feel deeply, enjoy simply and talk honestly will brush off and stir her reader’s thoughts.

Enas Al-Bahr, Canada
Enas is a System/Program Analyst, but when it comes to SY, she started out as the recruitment director and alternating writer. Enas then became the IS Director and graphic designer for SY-English and is currently on a break. She hates missing her bus, but may be her favourite cinnamon rolls will lighten up her day after that!

Ibrahim Nasher, Egypt
Although some friends consider Ibrahim a bit cynical, and others find him mysterious, one thing is for sure: As long as Ibrahim is in a good mood, he’s a super nice guy! He is also known as a frank guy who loves to joke most of the time but is pretty serious about his studies.  While majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Psychology at the American University in Cairo, Ibrahim has plans for Masters and a PhD in Psychological Anthropology. Outside of school, he is quite obsessed with Ofra Haza, cannot live without his iPod, is passionate about volunteering and humanitarian work, and enjoys horror movies (he thinks they add taste to life).  More about Ibrahim on his blog: www.ibbz.blogspot.com

Laila Al-Zoba, Canada
Laila is our team’s number-cruncher. Laila joined the team in 2004 and was the copy editor for SY-English until April 2006. She is now a member of our fun SY-English marketing team. She loves traveling, but hates airplanes! That’s kinda hard. Bugs bug Laila. We always make sure the newsletter is bugs-free. Just for you Laila!

Muna Qasem, Canada
The team is lucky to have a photography hobbyist. Muna joined SY in 2006 as Creative Director and has been organizing the talent section for SY-English since then. Besides taking hundreds of pictures per day while on a trip, Muna’s other interests in life include Arabic poetry and collecting shells. She has a major in Operations Management and a minor in Anthropology. Her management background encourages her to start her small business in the near future. Best of luck, Muna!

Mumtaz Fernandez, UK
Mumtaz has a mission in life: to help people. To do just that she is studying Psychology and paving her way towards Clinical psychology. Living close to the shopping hotspots in downtown London, guess what her hobby is? Shopping!! She also loves music, the theatre, fashion, and sitting in Starbucks with a good book… aah the life of a Londoner! Oh she also loves contributing as a monthly writer for SY-English.

Najwan Al-Junaid, Canada
Najwan, is always busy communicating. She has Bachelors in Communication Studies, works as a Communications Manager and communicates all the communication she can. What a life! She initially joined the team in 2004 as a writer and was a great asset to SY-English as Editor-in-Chief. She led our team with passion towards momentum. Najwan loves arts and a job well-done. Surprisingly, she hates milk. Yes, milk! Najwan is currently on a much-needed break from writing, but we won’t miss her for too long! Currently she’s a member of SY’s Advisory Board.

Osama Al-Shara’bi, Canada
With his masters in computer science, Osama prides himself as a social nerd who is funny and talkative in the morning, gloomy and in work mood midday and in a very contemplative mood by evening. When he is not banging his head against the table because of the technical problems he faces everyday, Osama is either on his epiphany couch thinking of a solution to some research problem, reading online about Arabic literature and poetry, chatting with friends on msn or philosophizing about life with his friends at SFU. Osama dedicated his spare time to SY-English as a Recruiting Director and spearheaded the establishment of the SY-Arabic where he is the Editor-in-Chief.

Radhi Yahia Al-Radhi, Yemen
Considering his profession as a teacher in the Cambridge International School in Sana’a, Radhi is passionate about education and the progress of youth in Yemen. You’ll find his zeal for quality education in his monthly articles for SY-English.

Raidan Al-Saqqaf, Yemen
Raidan is a passionate journalist who contributes as a writer for SY-English. As you’ll see from his website http://geocities.com/r_saqqaf/ Raidan also enjoys photography and is a journalist with the Yemen Times.

Roaa Bahran, Canada
Started as a copy editor and an organizer for the team, Roaa became the Marketing Director for SY-English. With her zillion e-mails reminding the team with deadlines, Roaa has earned the nickname the Outlook Reminder! Actually, we are thankful for having Roaa; the English team has been more prompt since she started sending us reminders. By the way, don’t invite Roaa to horror movies, they are her haunting fears!

Sara Waheeb, UAE
Sara has always been known as the social butterfly, so it’s not surprising that she is majoring in visual communication advertising and is a writer for SY-English. She loves music, sports, theatre, fashion and art. You’ll find Sara jet skiing, buggying in the desert, on safaris, or jumping off of something! But wait… that’s not all! Sara can’t live without the sun and a beach!

Suhayla Al-Hobaishi
Coming soon...

Taima Al-Qahtani, US
A bohemian at heart, Taima is a political science student who is introverted, secretive, and quite complex in nature. She is passionate about philosophical theories and politics and loves to watch the daily news despite its tragic and graphic materials. Basically Taima is what you would call an INFJ, which is a rare personality type! Taima is quite the poet and is also a professional writer who publishes for numerous magazines, including SY-English where she used to contribute as an alternative writer. Taima is currently the Copy Editor and monthly writer for SY-Arabic.

Wijdan Al-Junaid, Yemen
Wijdan is an architect by profession who resides in Taiz. She has a keen interest for Yemeni traditions whether in art, fashion or culture. In her free time, she enjoys creating sculptures as well as reading and following up on new designs and fashion. She is a monthly writer and the IT director with SY-Arabic

Yasmeen Al-Eryani, US
Growing up in Yemen with an encouraging father and questionable social attitudes taught her how to push for what she wants not by fists but by words. Now, having gotten the best of both worlds in politics and philosophy (AUB and Georgetown) and a growing interest in Islamic studies, she is in a position to offer a unique insight in matters of politics and society.  Yasmeen joined SY-English as an alternative writer

Yumna Al-Adeimi, Canada
Yumna’s undergraduate degrees in psychology and social inequality reflect in many of her articles. She joined the team in fall 2004 as a writer and then a creative director, and is currently the Editor-in-Chief for SY-English. She is completing her Masters in Social Work and lives in a mini-version of London, UK, surprisingly also called London.
