Paradise’s gates have swung their doors ajar, permitting the fragrance of the tempered fruits to ooze its way through me, poking and provoking. As I tread cautiously in, I’m seized by their sheer number and splendor and innocently question myself on how harder the choice for the ONE could be?
Laterally sit those sculptured to slender perfection, ahead hang those offering fieriness with their curvatious shapes and a promise of a long lasting taste with one bite whilst the sturdy, shaggy genus offer a whopping reward once delved deep into their soft core. Or do they?
As my mind swirls in my whirl winding days of fruit picking, I gloat joyfully in the numerous tastes my eyes, mind and sometimes tongue have become accustomed to, blissfully careless and unaware should poison fill any of their cores. But should this poison be named as envy, animosity and deceit would the poison be any more bitter? Would the fruits be any more precious should you have been told they were Meriam, Mary and Ali?
In their chosen and wondrous institutions, better known as Universities, testosterone and oestrogen driven youngsters radiate exhilaration and awe upon stepping on their newly found grounds. Dizzying adrenaline incites desires to please and fit in thus deluding many young Muslims into the misnomer of finding true love at university. This sentiment can often lead to the pursuit of unreligious relationships which last a few months or years to render the participants free from loneliness and unpopularity but which are based on frivolity, falseness and a lack of commitment. Such frenzied endeavors seed undesired foetuses, grow loss of respect and focus and reap falling grades and loss of anticipated certificates.
But does true love blossom from the rocky grounds and uncertainties associated with University life? Or are the harvested fruits simply enlightened as they have been picked regardless of their picker’s grasp and his or her intention for use?
Love is not a galore of sex nor is it the rush of flirtatious vocal and bodily expressions. It is a package of sacrifice, patience, dedication and a multitude of other well versed and monotonous lyrics. A package which includes the roots, trunk and stems of the tree from which the fruits were born with just as much weighting as the mellow fruits themselves. For love to be felt, taken and given, its pickers require maturity and stability, qualities which lack in the majority of University dwellers. As they embark on their short journey of self discovery with the hope of gaining the one way ticket into their new life as sprouting adults, it could well possibly be the only time they have to be absolutely selfish in fulfilling their aspirations without any long lasting sour tastes. Thus this begs the question, why take a bite in the first place? Why irrevocably get tangled in the strangulating vine like disarray of bravado and coercion?
Remember…………The destiny of our beginnings was decided in the very heart of paradise where Adam was deluded by the prospect of eternity. That same whisperer whistles in your ear and sends you spine chilling goose bumps when encountering the fruits, all in anticipation of your eventual downfall. But do not be fooled, for your way to paradise and its one special fruit has been paved. All that is required of you now, is discipline and a good sense of direction.
